Professional Coaching
I’ve supported the professional development of these wonderful individuals by coaching them on Zoom, via email, and through messaging apps. Their reviews of my coaching explain what we achieved together and how we did it. This artifact highlights my burgeoning transformational leadership practice.
The Writers’ Studio hired Kristina and I at the same time in Fall of 2019. We hit it off immediately in new employee orientation. I was happy to draw on my teaching background to support her educational and professional goals. She received the promotion to Senior Writing Mentor in Spring of 2021.
From Kristina herself:
“I've had the pleasure of working with Nick Mueller over the last two years through ASU's Writers' Studio. His dedication to his students, fellow mentors, and the Writers' Studio is unparalleled. His promotion to Senior Writing Mentor provided him the opportunity to share his innovative ideas including but not limited to social media guidance, accessibility, Senior Mentor Q&A sessions, New Mentor Labs, and professional content through the Slack app. I was promoted to the Senior Mentor position as well, and Nick's leadership and organization skills guided me into the responsibilities and expectations for the position. He's always exploring new ways to expand and improve current methods in and outside of the classroom. All of these traits have made him an outstanding Senior Mentor and a wonderful asset to the Writers' Studio.”
The Writers’ Studio hired Ale about a year after me. Her talent and passion for teaching First-Year Composition soon became apparent. We worked together to strengthen her teaching practice through a shared interest in educational technology. She was promoted to Senior Writing Mentor during the Summer of 2021.
From Ale:
“Nick has been a wonderful mentor for the last year, he taught me all the necessary skills to be able to apply for the Senior Writing Mentor job at ASU‘s Writers’ Studio and succeed in getting the position.
He’s a really wonderful teacher and one of his biggest assets are his organization skills that allow him to guide and teach his students in the best possible way.
Something interesting about Nick, is that he teaches by example, so he tries to fulfill all his assignments before due date so everyone else learn how to manage time and role requirements. It is interesting to see how he has grown as a mentor in the last couple of semesters and incorporated social media strategies and new approaches to education from coworkers in the Writers’ Studio.
It has been an interesting and amazing ride to share the Sr. Writing Mentor position with him and get to learn how to better education from someone with so much experience. He has always been a really great writer and I hope that he gets published and his poetry is read by more people so that his talent gets acknowledged.”
Abby’s been a very active Writing Mentor who was hired in Fall of 2019. This past summer, she applied to become a Sr. Writing Mentor. Unfortunately, she didn’t receive the promotion due to two other individuals who presented a stronger case. When she emailed me to let me know she didn’t get the job, I offered to coach her so that her next application would be successful. During the winter break of 2021, she received the promotion to Sr. Writing Mentor
According to Abby:
“Nick Mueller has been my mentor since I first became a part of the Writers’ Studio. He took me under his wing without hesitation, and guided me towards realizing my full potential. When the most recent session began, he reached out to me to check on my goals for the next session and see where I was in my development. His guidance and encouragement have made me the mentor and person I am today.”
